331. Mid-Year Check-in: Are You On Track to Hit Your Goals?

Can you believe it’s June already? I know I say this all the time but damn, this year is going by fast. The good news is the countdown to my birthday has officially started. Now i just need to figure out what I’m going to do to celebrate…

But all this really means for you is that we’re almost halfway through the year so it’s the perfect time for you to do a little gut check in your business.

Are you on track with the goals you set at the beginning of the year?
Have things gone sideways? Are you crushing it? Are you somewhere in between?

That’s what we’re diving into today — a quick mid-year check-in to get you refocused and ready for the back half of the year.

Truth is, a lot of entrepreneurs just plow through the year never stopping to reassess. But if you don’t take a pause and look at what’s happening in your business, the end of the year will sneak up on you and you’ll be scrambling to hit those goals you set for yourself.

Why a Mid-Year Check-in Matters

You already know I’m a big fan of quarterly planning. If you missed it, go back and listen to [Episode 313], where I walk you through my whole process.

And actually — over in The Lounge, we’re doing that quarterly planning together this month. So if you want some accountability and a community to plan alongside, come join us.

And going through this process can be the exact thing you need to keep yourself focused on what actually matters.

I was chatting with one of my Lounge members the other day, and she was SO pumped about the new Shopify theme updates — Horizon this, Theme Blocks that.

But after hearing me say for probably the third time that you do NOT need to upgrade to this feature right now… she kind of had this moment of clarity.

At first, she was a little deflated because she’d been so excited to play with it.
But then she realized — this is NOT the most important thing in her business right now.

Her paid theme is already awesome. Paid themes on this new structure haven’t evenbeen  released yet.
She’s heading into her busiest season — Q3 and Q4 — and that’s where her attention needs to be.

It was such a good reminder: shiny object syndrome is real, especially when you’re feeling a little stuck or distracted.
But staying focused on the right things? That’s what’s going to move the needle in your business.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself During Your Mid-Year Check-in

So with that in mind — here’s your quick mid-year check-in.

Grab a notebook, open your notes app, whatever works. And ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Am I on track with my goals? Why or why not?
Be honest with yourself. No judgment — just clarity. If you’re behind on where you thought you’d be, look at what’s missing. Is it a traffic problem, a conversion problem, an AOV problem? Once you identify that, take it a step further… what’s different or off this year that’s driving those results. Did you take your attention away from something, Is there a product you should have that you don’t? Did your latest collection not resonate with your customers?
  2. What’s working? What’s not?
Double down on what’s driving results. Let go of what’s draining your time. Remember that being busy is not the same as being productiv, and it’s all too easy to waste a lot of time on things that don’t help the bottom line of your business.
  3. What’s one thing I can focus on this quarter that will move the needle?
Remember, you’re better off doing fewer things, better. Pick ONE thing you’re going to focus on getting really good instead of trying to do all the things.

Your Best Next Steps for Q3

Once you’ve got a handle on where you’re at and where you still need to go, I’ve got two episodes where I talk about surviving the summer as an entrepreneur, depending on which direction you’re heading in. If you’re on track and you want to coast for the season, sweet, check out episode 280 – setting yourself up for success. If you realize you’re behind and you need to get some shit done, check out episode 281 – capitalize on the slow selling season.

Either way, summer is a great time to clean up your foundations and set yourself up for a strong Q4.
But ONLY if you’re intentional about it.

Be real with yourself about what you need to do to accomplish your goals for the rest of the year and don’t get distracted by shiny objects. And start now, mid-year is the perfect time to course-correct. And if you want help staying focused, making smart decisions, and planning your next quarter — come hang out with us in The Lounge. We’re diving into our quarterly planning process this month, and it’s the perfect time to get in there.
